I was pretty happy today.

It’s like the first time the air smells green with the incoming spring. It’s finding that geocache after searching for what seems like hours. It’s driving to the middle of no where, sitting on the hood of the car, and just staring at the stars.

It is realizing that what you thought you wanted to do with your life isn’t really it; what you’re meant to do is so much more. It is hugging someone you really care about after not seeing them for a really long time. It’s getting really good news and a new job you love. And it’s all those times when you are reminded that God has your six.

Sure, there’s going to be the down moments. Those moments where you want to go park in the middle of a back road and scream up at God “Why me?”. The noticed Facebook statuses when you realize that your friends are all starting to settle down with someone the love and decide to start filling the nest. The times you feel weak and alone.

Then you pick up, dust yourself off, and straighten your hair. Because you’re a million bucks and priceless to someone. You’re going out there and getting yourself high up the food chain than all your old friends and you’re making a name for yourself. At the end of the day, you’ve got your work done and done it damn well.

And guess what? You’re happy.

It isn’t the use of soda versus pop versus coke or the great shopping cart or buggy debate.

No, these are dialects. Dialects are the difference within on same language (or arguably culture and country). The accent is what a foreigner has when they speak their second/another language. I tend to forget this, unfortunately. However, Doctor Dupont reminded us of this in Media Performance yesterday.

“An Apology”

Part of the problem of dating older guys was she wasn’t sure how to act around them when the whole thing seemed to be over and done. Anna sighed and looked at her watch one more time. She had really hoped she would be in and out of there before then but it couldn’t be helped.

She didn’t want to avoid him, necessarily. However she didn’t really want to talk to him. The problem with seeming to be over and done: she wasn’t quite sure what to think when he kept messaging her. She was just as bad; she missed him and had thoroughly enjoyed talking to him. Long term it wouldn’t work because she had big plans for her life and would probably end up back north if she got what she wanted.

Anna watched him walk over to his area and had to bite her lip to keep from smiling. It was a stupid impulse that her friends said she did even when she got a freaking stupid little text message. Stupid, stupid hormones.

She managed to escape with only a few words exchanged, make it through the few errands she needed to run, and get home safely. She was such an idiot. She typed out an apology except it didn’t turn out right. She pressed send anyway, continued to stare at the computer, and started typing again.

I am a royal screw up and it’s no wonder that I shouldn’t date.

I’ve too many things to do in life.

I don’t need anything to slow me down.

Not now, anyway.

But maybe someday.

1. It reminds me what a failure I am with dating.

Part of this is that I’m very particular about guys. I can’t stand the really immature, ass grabbing frat boys I come in      contact with on a daily basis. I prefer to date men a little older than me. Sure, they’re still guys who are obsessed with sports and video games, but a lot of the time they know how to actually listen and not crow on and on about the awesome party they had/went to last weekend.

2. It makes me feel inadequate.

This goes back to one guy I dated who I dated once upon a time who, when I was at my skinniest (size 6, which is NOT big for me), told me I was fat. Then he dug himself into a deeper whole by telling me he thought I should dye my hair blonde or at least get high lights. Oh, and then he had the nerve that I shouldn’t be so outspoken.

I’m sorry. If you can’t respect me for who I am, then go bother someone else.

3. Valentine’s Day is way over commercialized.

I walk into Walmart and it looks like Cupid puked everywhere. It’s been like this since Christmas. I don’t want to see it or deal with it. There’s more to Valentine’s Day than just stinking Cupid and stinking romance. Sheesh. (If you don’t believe me, click here.)

4. Reminds me of all the dumb boys AND men I wasted time on.

That one’s pretty self explanatory. Especially with the last one this pertains to. I thought we were just going to be friends then it morphed into dating.

5.  If you really like/love someone, they like to feel special more than four times a year.

I refer to four specific dates: Valentine’s Day, Christmas, birthday, and anniversary. For real, people. If someone doesn’t make you feel special/loved/liked/whatever everyday, kick them to the curb.
