Sports

I enjoy sports. Actually, I love them. I played softball and volleyball in high school. I ran track one season in junior high (and stunk at it). I love watching football. I know basketball but don’t watch it much anymore. I know a little tennis.

Do not ask me about golf or soccer. I’m completely lost.

And now I’m going to be doing some sports reporting for our campus/Oxford station, NewsWatch. I’m used to news stories.

This is a plea for help. I need tips on how to shoot for sports reporting and whatever else I might need to know.

PLEASE!!!! I WILL BAKE YOU COOKIES!!!

(ok, maybe not. But I’ll love you forever.)

Why was I Allowed to Watch This?

Last night I saw The Lion King in 3D. I am proud to say there was not a single person in the theater under the age of 18.
I am not proud to say that I was told I laugh like Rafiki and sound like Zazu when I’m stopped up.
Really?
So, can I just say this show rocked? While the 3D made me a bit sick to my stomach as all the animals zipped by (which was about 40% of the movie), it was epic.
The opening scene, when Zazu flies up to the top of Pride Rock? I almost reached out to try to catch him. It was like he was that close and I that stupid. (I always wanted a pet Zazu)
A few things that were kind of meh… First off, Mufasa’s nose seemed to be too long for his face. This bothered me – I guess since I love artsy. Also, I felt during the hyena scenes they should have been more in our faces than they were. I mean, they’re supposed to be scary and evil, right?
However, the thing that got me most – Why the heck was I allowed to watch the Can You Feel the Love Tonight? scene when I was younger!? Holy poop! Sexual undertones popped out now. It was like >facepalm< and so wrong on so many levels. I know as a kid you're not going to catch it most the time but it was still just a shocker.
The best part of going to see it though? The guy handing out the 3D glasses asked about my saint medals.

Underestimated?

Well, CNN has been a sounding board on the projected Jewish vote for the 2012 election with people arguing back and forth over will they or won’t they vote for Obama. Here’s an article today on the whole deal:

http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2011/09/22/dnc-chair-obama-will-win-jewish-vote-in-2012/

I really am waiting for the Jewish population to speak up for themselves. At least, I haven’t found anything online yet. But please, politicians, remember, the Jewish people are like any other group – they aren’t single issue voters.

Class Act

These are sequences I did for class. We had to come up with a story idea and shoot sequences that would fit as well as write Anchor Intros, etc. (I’ll put that stuff up later. Once I print the final version.)

For now, here are my (kind of shoddy, in my opinion) sequences.

Please remember, I’m no professional, just a lowly student. Remarks and advice as much appreciated.

Homework

I truly hate homework. Mine last night took several hours. While most of this was spent on my Spanish homework, the most frustrating of it was done for my fiction workshop class.

Why? Well, for starters, we had to read our usual short story and put up a short discussion on Blackboard. The past three stories have dealt with people who are sexual deviants in some respect. For some reason, this one hit me the worst. I suppose it was because you knew the thoughts of both the characters, not just one or the other.

Then, my teacher had the bright idea of making us write 78 word short stories. Esquire is running a contest of short short stories of 78 words in honor of their 78th birthday. What usually would take me a few seconds to pound out took five drafts. I kept on coming up with better descriptive words. What of course would it be? I’ve had show, don’t tell pounded into me for the past several years!

So now, I get to decide whether or not I’m going to actually submit aforementioned story into the contest. Part of me wants to. Part of me doesn’t.

Is it Friday yet?

Ghost Busters

This is the first package I put together for class – like a legit package. I also have a long article that goes with it but I’m not going to post a ten page paper on here.

The beginning was sooooo shaky. Wow.

Journo

I am a journo. It is in my blood. It is what makes me want to go-go go.

Well, there are other things as well. Right now, however, it is the only thing that I can care about.

Besides my Faith, that is.

I want to travel. I want to cover what is going on outside our borders. I have a passion for Latin America, especially Central America. I have had a love affair with the region since I visited Honduras in 2005.

This is my interactive journal and note taking section for potential stories brewing down there.

A girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do.
